Bakersfield, CA 1985... Brian Dawson claims while lenders were closing left and right during the tough high interest rate period of the early 1980s, he started American Financial Services just to give himself a "job!"

From this modest goal, Dawson has turned American Financial Services into one of the most successful local mortgage brokerage companies in Kern County.  He started American Financial long before brokering was a booming industry, seeking referrals from people such as local bankers, accountants and financial advisers who believed Dawson would secure the best terms for their clients.  "I made a decision to work as hard as I could and the results would have to be acceptable to me."  He did, the results followed and the office became very successful.

"The refinance craze actually started in 1986," Dawson said.  "Since that time, the industry has attracted swarms of inexperienced people.  They just can't know everything they need to know.  That's why many people feel dissatisfied.  Customers hate surprises.  Especially at the end."  He points to a recent survey that 60 percent of the people who deal with mortgage lenders end up getting bad service.

Dawson is proud that in an industry noted for dissatisfied customers, 100 percent of his  business comes from referrals and most of those are repeat customers!  "Our average customer is knowledgeable and well informed," Dawson states, "they demand the best."

Dawson has very definitive feelings about how to conduct business.  "We work very hard to make the process easier for the customer, and cut through the bureaucracy," Dawson said.  Now in his 20th year, with a team of professionals and a customer base like none other, it's motto of "Excellence in Mortgage Brokering" has never been truer.
